Corsham Civic Society Hosts a Special Event
Corsham’s Civic Society has prepared an informative and entertaining evening for its next Open Meeting on Friday, 26 September. Entitled “Wiltshire Readings”, it will take the form of the recounting of local history, stories, anecdotes and other reminiscences, delivered by members of the Society itself.
The event is the brainchild of the Society’s Programme Organiser, Wyndham Thomas, and his sub-committee. Wyndham was confident that there was enough material out there, and there were sufficient members able and willing to present that material, that he personally nominated it for inclusion in the 2008 Programme way back in October 2007 when it was being compiled. He has not been disappointed.
Wyndham has reported recently, “While we will always make room for a few last-minute items, the agenda for the evening is now set and programme has filled up nicely.”
Peter Tapscott, the Society’s Publicity Officer, states “This is the kind of event that makes the Corsham Civic Society stand out from the rest. Like other groups, we can mount a series of talks on issues relevant to our particular set of causes that are delivered by seasoned presenters and draw good audiences. However, such is the history of Corsham and the local area, and the enthusiasm and willingness of its membership to stand up and be counted in explaining it to the community-at-large, that the Society is able to stage an event like this. We already sense a buzz around the town about it and have high expectations of a good attendance on the night.”
“Wiltshire Readings” takes place at the Society’s regular venue for such monthly, Friday evening Open Meetings, the recently-refurbished ‘The Pound’, at Pound Pill in Corsham. It starts at 8 o’clock. Members, at £1, and guests, at £2, are most welcome.
