PRESS RELEASE – 5 DECEMBER 2006

Civic Society Announces its 2007 Programme

Corsham’s Civic Society has unveiled its Programme of Events for the coming year.  It contains presentations on a wide range of subjects, together with the type of purely sociable gatherings that have marked the growing popularity of this group over recent years.  Some of the topics being covered in 2007 are truly novel – not ones to be found on the more-generally encountered programmes for such organisations.

There is an event in every month – two in August.  The February meeting is something of a coup.  Michael Burton (former Head of the School of Architecture, Bristol University) will give a talk on the formation of the Civic Trust and its achievements over the 50 years since that date in 1956.  Michael played a major role in the Trust’s formation.  He is now one of Corsham’s notable residents.

The Society reckons it has found the answer to the problem which sooner or later befalls every group of its kind – that of assembling an attractive set of talks, presentations, outings and social gatherings that ensure well attended meetings, year-in, year-out.  It has formed a small team which takes collective responsibility for this key area of the group’s activities.  No longer is it down to the efforts of one person.  The team is to be congratulated on its 2007 Programme, hopefully the first of many, as far as Corsham is concerned.

You do not need to be a member to attend these meetings.  However, as the Society is keen to point out, it is always on the lookout for new members.  They are assured of a warm welcome.

Copies of the 2007 Programme are available at the Corsham Tourist Information & Heritage Centre.  Additionally, the Programme can always be found on the Society’s highly-acclaimed website, www.corsham-civic-society.co.uk.
